These paintings are an expression of a belief that a new art for the 21st Century can arise from the uncompromising values of the Life Room. Personally, I would rather have seen a life painting by a 1st year student honestly struggling to express the form than most of the art produced in the last 3rd of the 20th Century. I say a first year student because it is easier in the later years to become seduced by the ideas of wordsmiths who "teach" but cannot paint.

These values are, of course, applicable across the whole range of subject matter not just the painting of the figure.
